Why the model number in Settings is different than what printed on the back cover on my iPad?

You can verify the model number of your iPad in "Settings > General > About > Model". It should be match the one printed on the back cover.

But if you bought a refurbished iPad with its logic board replaced, iPad settings will display a different model number.

For example:

Model on the back: A1474
Model in Settings: MD788C/A or MD788LL/A

In this case, MD788C/A or MD788LL/A is the same hardware as A1474, but has with different configurations and identifications for different market regions.
